NBA Point Spread Explained: What Does +7.5 Mean?
At +7.5, your team can win outright or lose by seven or fewer and still cover. Here is how to read and find a line like +3.5.
How +7.5 and −7.5 work
At +7.5, your team covers by winning outright or losing by seven or fewer. At −7.5, your team must win by eight or more. The half point prevents a tie against the line. The price, for example −110, is separate from the point spread.
How do I select +3.5 in a sportsbook app?
Open the NBA matchup, find Spread or Point Spread and look for +3.5 beside the team you want. If the main spread is different, look for Alternate Spreads if the app offers them. Before confirming, check the team, + sign, line, odds and whether it applies to the game or only a period. If +3.5 is missing, the exact line is unavailable there at that time.
What does +3.5 or −3.5 mean?
At +3.5, a win or a loss by three or fewer covers. At −3.5, your team must win by at least four. Use the final margin for the period named on the slip.
| Team result | +3.5 | −3.5 |
|---|---|---|
| Wins by 4 | Wins | Wins |
| Wins by 3 | Wins | Loses |
| Loses by 3 | Wins | Loses |
| Loses by 4 | Loses | Loses |
Work through a real final score
Miami beat the Clippers 117–116 in overtime on November 4, 2026. At an illustrative +7.5, the Clippers would have covered despite losing. Miami would not have covered an illustrative −7.5. These are example lines applied after the game. For a full-game line, check whether the market includes overtime. At Miami −1, a one-point win would push under standard spread settlement.
